Katy grew up in Victoria BC playing the cello. In 2004 she moved to England to study violin making at Newark School of Violin Making. She graduated in 2007 and worked in Toronto until 2012 focusing on repairs. From there she worked in several shops in Finland and England.
In 2014 she moved to Perugia, Italy to work with her husband Filippo Protani. Her focus is on repairing and the restoration of violins, violas and cellos but enjoys making a violin a year.
Since 2020 she’s been a committee member of the BVMA.
