Richard Compartino

Richard Compartino set up his workshop in St-Séverin, Quebec in 1981 after a three-year training with violin maker Mario Lamarre. He pursued his studies in bow making with Jean-Yves Matter who is an instrument maker in Strasbourg, France and furthered knowledge through several internships

Richard Compartino manufactures all the instruments for the string quartet, as well as their bows including any restoration and repair.  The composition of the varnish is an area of research that he is passionate about and also renowned for.  As an instrument maker, he values passing on his knowledge to the apprentices in his workshop. Professional musicians, students from the Conservatory and Laval University often call upon his expertise. Richard Compartino dedicates himself to instrument making by achieving the highest quality in sound, which is very appreciated by musicians.
