Mario Lamarre is an internationally renowned Quebec-based luthier, celebrated for crafting exceptional instruments favored by many professional musicians. A recipient of numerous awards, he combines meticulous craftsmanship, acoustic sensitivity, and a deep passion for both tradition and innovation. Mr. Lamarre primarily crafts the instruments that make up the string quartet, as well as the double bass. He studied from 1977 to 1980 with the Italian master luthier Sylvio de Lellis, who had settled in Quebec at the time to establish the first Canadian workshop-school. For over thirty-three years, Mr. Lamarre has been exploring the fascinating world of lutherie, during which he has developed a very personal style, including a concept of faceted arching. Nevertheless, this has not prevented him from also creating more traditionally styled instruments.
